Te Iwi Matihiko – Our Digital Village. A values-based approach to digital wellbeing in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Developed by Digital Natives Academy (DNA), Te Iwi Matihiko required a kete of resources for schools, hapū, marae, communities to help tamariki and rangatahi, their whānau, their teachers and schools safely navigate digital spaces. Focusing on two key areas, online gaming and social media, Te Iwi Matihiko approached Nomad Studios to design the workshop programme resources. This consisted of 5 workshops (2 workshops for 9-12 year olds, 2 workshops for 13+, 1 workshop for adults) each with a lesson plan and related activities. Alongside this, an inclusive curriculum guide and evualtion framework was to be designed, contained within a customised presentation folder.
The design for these resources was to be simple yet strikingly Māori. As these resources were to be used as teaching materials and learning development tools, all lesson plans were designed to be utilitarian in their design approach as teachers/tutors needs to be able to easily work thought the content and teach it. Because of this, Nomad Studios conveyed as much inforamation as possible in a visual form, with heavy use of icons and a set colour pallet.
